The Biblical story of David and Goliath is one of the most fascinating stories in all the bible. On its surface, the story talks about how the young shepherd Boy, David, slayed the mighty warrior Goliath. Yet underneath the surface, there is the key lesson for your life. This biblical story is actually about Perspective. In essence, if you think something is bigger and stronger than you, then it will be. As much as Goliath was feared, Goliath actually had a rare disease called Gigantism. This disease made it difficult for him to walk, talk and see. While he was a man, who an entire army Feared, Goliath also struggled with a lot of pain. It turns out, Goliath, the Giant also has a lot of weaknesses. This brings us to the key lesson for you today.

THE GIANT THAT HAS BEEN CONSUMING YOU ALSO HAS A LOT OF WEAKNESSES.

Who is your Giant? Is the Giant in your life financial burdens, family stress, Health issues, a toxic relationship? Whatever you are dealing with today, I want to remind you that giants do fall.

For so long, I allowed my fears to consume me. I remember as a young man I used to get so anxious worrying about everything. Wondering if the dreams I had were ever going to work out. I carried this anxiety around like a second skin, everywhere I went, I would be overcome with anxiety. There are times in your life, when your biggest fears are in your own head and hearts, they are not real. I wonder how many of you are allowing things that are not even real to control you! These invisible fears control the decisions we make and how you see yourself and think about your future.

We allow all the troubles in our mind and spirits to get us down and knock us off of our element. Some problems knock you down so good that it feels hard to get up. But, as children of God with access to the Kingdom’s tools, you have everything you need to fight against the troubles of this world. Jesus showed us on the cross and through His resurrection that there is nothing in this world, even death, cannot destroy you Just as David, a young shepherd boy slayed a mighty Goliath, you can slay all your worries, stresses, heartbreaks, sicknesses, and brokenness. You are the giant to them.

Scripture for Meditation

1 Samuel 17:45-47 (KJV) — "Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied." David's power was not in his weapon, beloved—it was in his perspective. He saw Goliath through the lens of God's faithfulness, not through the lens of fear. Whatever giant stands before you today, the same God who was with David is standing with you right now.

2 Corinthians 10:5 (NKJV) — "Casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ." Family, many of your giants live only in your imagination, fed by anxious thoughts that contradict what God has promised you. You have the power to take those thoughts captive and replace them with the truth of Scripture.

Philippians 4:6-7 (KJV) — "Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and your minds through Christ Jesus." When anxiety tries to wear you like a second skin, prayer is your breakthrough. God's peace is not dependent on your circumstances—it guards your heart when you surrender your fears to Him.

Walking It Out

Name your giant specifically. Don't leave it vague. Write down exactly what has been consuming you—whether it's debt, a strained relationship, health anxiety, or self-doubt. Once you name it, you strip it of its power to hide in the shadows of your mind.

Identify one weakness in your giant. Just as Goliath had physical limitations despite his size, your obstacle has vulnerabilities too. Is your financial burden temporary? Does that toxic relationship have clear boundaries where you can step back? Write down one concrete weakness and one small action you can take today to exploit it.

Replace one anxious thought with Scripture. The next time that familiar fear rises up, stop and speak a Bible verse aloud. Choose one verse from above or find another that speaks to your situation. Say it out loud three times. Let God's Word rewire the neural pathways of fear that have become comfortable in your mind.

A Prayer for You

Lord, I come before You today with the giants I've been carrying, and I lay them at Your feet. Forgive me for allowing fear to have more authority in my life than Your promise. Open my eyes to see my obstacles the way You see them—not as unconquerable mountains, but as opportunities for me to witness Your power. Give me the courage of David, the faith to believe that what You have called good in my life cannot be stolen by circumstances or anxiety. In Jesus' name, Amen.
