“When the well runs low, the Spirit starts digging”
“…but whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.” – John 4:14 (KJV)
We are half-way home, and some of you can already feel the bucket scraping bottom. Monday used adrenaline, Tuesday used caffeine, and Wednesday morning greets you with the echo of an empty drum. The Spirit sent me to the well of Samaria to tell you: Jesus specializes in mid-week refills. He will ask for your empty pot, not your perfect plan. One honest conversation with the Master turns every depleted place into a spring that never stops springing.
I don’t know what you’re running low on—patience with the children, ideas for the job, money for the rent—but I know the Supplier who never reads “out of stock.” Drink this morning: not the headlines, not the group-chat, not the old regret. Drink the water that stays in you and keeps working while you work. When you feel it bubbling, let it bubble into praise, into perseverance, into practical kindness. The same water that refreshes you will refresh somebody else by quitting time.
Lift the handle of faith, Beloved. The stream is already turning. The well is already rising. And the One who started the flow is still standing at the spigot of grace.
A MOMENT FOR GIVING Your $5 keeps the pump primed for the next thirsty traveler.
Scripture for Meditation
Psalm 23:5 (KJV) — "Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over." When the world around you is hostile and draining, God doesn't just meet your need—He overflows it. Your cup running over means there's always enough left to pour into someone else, even on the days when you feel depleted.
Isaiah 41:10 (NKJV) — "Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand." That mid-week emptiness you feel? God's presence doesn't depend on your strength—it depends on His. When you cannot hold yourself up, He is already holding you.
Philippians 4:19 (KJV) — "But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus." Not according to your budget, your energy, or your capacity—but according to His infinite riches. Whatever you're running low on, He has an inexhaustible supply waiting to pour into your life.
Walking It Out
Stop and drink before noon. Don't wait until the well is completely dry. Take ten minutes this morning—before the phone rings, before the emails pile up—and sit with Jesus in prayer. Ask Him specifically what you're running low on, and ask Him to fill it. Write down what He whispers to your heart.
Share the overflow today. Before 5 p.m., do one act of kindness that costs you something—your time, your attention, your energy. Call someone who's discouraged. Pray for a coworker out loud. Give a word of encouragement. Let the water Jesus gave you flow through you to refresh another thirsty soul.
Replace one empty source with the Living Water. Identify one thing you've been drinking from that leaves you drained—worry about tomorrow, comparison on social media, old shame. Replace it with one Scripture you'll read instead. Let that verse be your spigot of grace today and tomorrow.
A Prayer for You
Father, I come to You with empty buckets and a tired heart, and I thank You that You never turn away the thirsty. Fill me this day with the water that never runs dry—the presence and power of Your Spirit working in me. I lift my vessel to You, not my perfection, and I ask You to spring up in every dry place of my life: my patience, my provision, my purpose, my peace. Let this water bubble up through me today in such a way that everyone I touch knows that Jesus is real and that His well never empties. In Jesus' name, Amen.
