When God Goes Quiet
I had a whole different devotional planned for this morning—something to follow Monday’s message on activating your faith through prayer.
But I couldn’t shake this sermon. I woke up with “Overcoming the Silence of Heaven” by Dr. E. Dewey Smith Jr. ringing in my spirit. And I knew—I had to switch it up.
Because someone needs this word right now.
There is a particular kind of weight that comes not when God says no… but when He says nothing. You pray. You believe. You wait. And all you hear is silence. That silence can feel like abandonment. But beloved, it’s not.
Dr. Smith reminded us: God may be silent, but He’s not absent.
Even when Heaven is quiet, God is working. Even when you don’t feel Him, He’s near. His silence isn’t rejection—it’s preparation. It’s maturity. It’s trust.
In John 11, Jesus waited four days before coming to Lazarus. Not because He didn’t care—but because resurrection was always the plan. Sometimes the silence is setting up the miracle.
So if you’re in a season where Heaven feels still… Stay faithful. Keep praying. Don’t walk away. Because when God does speak—everything will shift.

Scripture for Meditation
"For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known." — 1 Corinthians 13:12 (KJV)
Right now, beloved, you're looking through a glass darkly. God's silence isn't because He's hidden—it's because you're not yet ready to see the full picture. What He's building in this quiet season will make sense when you finally turn around and see how every silent moment was a stepping stone to your breakthrough.
"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding." — Proverbs 3:5 (KJV)
When Heaven is quiet, your flesh wants to figure it out. But God is asking you to trust what you cannot see. That's not weakness—that's the deepest kind of faith. Your job isn't to understand the silence; your job is to remain steadfast in it.
"And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear." — Isaiah 65:24 (KJV)
God heard you before you even prayed. His answer is already in motion. The silence you're experiencing isn't a delay—it's divine timing. He's orchestrating circumstances, opening doors, and aligning blessings that your impatience would only rush and ruin.
Walking It Out
Write down three prayers you've prayed that felt unanswered. Don't focus on the silence—focus on what God *has* done in your life before. Let that history be your evidence that He moves, even when it's not on your timeline. Refer back to this list when doubt creeps in.
Set a daily reminder that says: "God is not silent—He's working." Every time it pops up, pause and name one thing God has already provided in your life. Gratitude in the silence trains your spirit to recognize His hand even when you can't hear His voice.
Find one person in the silence with you and commit to praying for them daily. When you shift from self-focus to intercessory prayer, the silence becomes purpose. You're not waiting alone—you're standing in the gap for someone else. That's the heart of God at work.
A Prayer for You
Father, I come to You on behalf of everyone reading this who feels the weight of Heaven's silence. You know what they've prayed. You know what they're waiting for. I ask You, Lord, to strengthen their faith in this quiet season—not to give them answers yet, but to give them assurance that You are near, that You are working, and that this silence is not abandonment but preparation. Give them the grace to trust what they cannot see. And when You do speak, let it shake their foundations with the power of what You've been building all along. In Jesus' name, Amen.
