To Our Brothers and Sisters in Jamaica — God Has Not Forgotten You

Share

This morning my heart is heavy for my brothers and sisters in Jamaica. The destruction left behind by this hurricane has been devastating — homes lost, communities flooded, lives turned upside down. But I want you to hear this truth clearly: even in the storm, God is still there.

I know this pain personally. My own roots run deep in the soil of Jamaica. I still have family there — people I love who are picking up the pieces of their lives right now. And yet, even as we grieve, I know the spirit of the Jamaican people: resilient, faithful, and unbreakable.

We serve a God who walks through the wind and the waves with His people. Scripture says, “He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still” (Psalm 107:29). That same God who brought peace to the raging sea will bring peace again to our island home.

Today, I want every reader — whether you are in Jamaica or standing with Jamaica from afar — to hold on to this promise: God is not absent in your suffering. He is there, even in the ruin, working toward restoration.

Lord, we lift up the people of Jamaica. Strengthen every heart that has been broken. Provide shelter to those who have lost everything. Let Your peace be a covering over the island, and let Your presence comfort those who feel forgotten. We thank You for being the God who still calms the storm. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Scripture for Meditation

Psalm 107:28-29 (KJV)
"Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, and he bringeth them out of their distresses. He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still."
Beloved, when your circumstances feel overwhelming, the God who commands the storm commands your situation. He does not ask you to weather the disaster alone—He invites you to cry out to Him, and in His time, He transforms chaos into calm.

Isaiah 41:10 (NKJV)
"Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand."
God speaks directly to the fear that loss plants in your heart. His presence in your wreckage is not distant comfort—it is an active, strengthening hand. He upholds you when your own strength has been swept away.

2 Corinthians 4:17 (KJV)
"For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory."
This does not minimize your pain, family. Rather, it anchors your present suffering to an eternal promise. God is working redemption even now, and He will not waste a single tear shed in His presence.

Walking It Out

1. Give or volunteer today, even in your own need. The Jamaican spirit is one of mutual care. If you are able, send aid to relief organizations serving Jamaica, or if you live there, reach out to one neighbor—just one—and ask how you can help them rebuild. Generosity in the midst of loss is a declaration that you still trust God's provision.

2. Speak life over someone's broken situation. Find one person—in Jamaica or in your own community—who is grieving loss, and send them a text, call, or visit with this word: "God has not forgotten you. He is building something new." Your voice, rooted in faith, becomes the voice of Christ to someone drowning in despair.

3. Commit to pray Jamaica by name for the next 40 days. Set a phone reminder for morning or evening. When it alerts you, pray the names of Jamaican parishes—Kingston, St. Andrew, Manchester, St. Mary—and intercede for families, churches, and the rebuilding of the island. Prayer is not passive; it is spiritual warfare against the spirit of hopelessness.

A Prayer for You

Father, I come before You on behalf of every brother and sister in Jamaica whose world has been shaken. You see every collapsed house, every grieving heart, every doubt that whispers, "Has God forgotten us?" I ask You now to pour out Your Spirit on that island with the same force as the storm—but this time, a spirit of healing, hope, and resurrection. Strengthen the hands of those who rebuild. Provide abundantly for those who have nothing. Let every Jamaican know that their God walks with them through ruin toward restoration. And use me, use
