Making A Priority out of the Dreams And Visions You have been Given
We are all looking to change, grow, mature and transform our lives. It might be losing a few pounds, quitting caffeine or saving money—or something more substantial like controlling emotions, becoming more Christ-like or overcoming addiction.
Change is possible for a few days, but then we revert to our old ways. Transformation is different from change—it’s an ongoing recalibration of our default settings. Change is a superficial modification but transformation alters our core and manifests itself in our daily life. From God’s transformation in my own personal life and the lives’ of those I have pastored, I have found Some Essential Elements for Transformation :
I often meet people who are stuck—so stuck they believe who they are is who they have to be for the rest of their life. They say things like, “There’s no hope,” “I’m a lost cause,” “This is how God wired me,” “Change is impossible.” God sent Jesus and gave us His instruction book not only change us, but also to totally transform us—for this world and for eternity.
2. Identify and Define Specific Goals
To accomplish anything, we need goals. Leaving home with no goal of reaching work will get us nowhere. Randomness never helps us achieve goals. Unfortunately, we often have vague goals instead of specific ones. Goals help us focus on what we want, then allow us to precisely set our internal GPS to facilitate the most efficient path to our destination. Determining and identifying specific goals dramatically improve our chances of achieving them. Ask yourself today, what goals has God placed on my heart? Where is God calling me? How can I serve God today?

Certain changes might be necessary for health or financial reasons, while others might move us toward exciting opportunities. Regardless, change requires breaking old habits. Shedding the old self for a new one isn’t easy, so motivation is vital. Realizing the consequences of maintaining the status quo will energize you. At the same time, understanding the rewards of emotional and spiritual growth—especially as you reap the fruits of the spirit and honor God—is a supreme motivator. Remind yourself daily of the pros and cons of change to keep your motivation. The enemy will tell you that remaining stagnant is better than transforming, but he is lying. KEEP MOVING!
Scripture for Meditation
Proverbs 29:18 (KJV) — "Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he." Without a clear vision rooted in God's Word, beloved, we drift aimlessly—our dreams scatter like leaves in the wind. But when you anchor your vision in Scripture and obey God's design for your life, you step into the happiness that only comes from divine alignment.
Habakkuk 2:2-3 (NKJV) — "Then the LORD answered me and said: 'Write the vision and make it plain on tablets, that he may run who reads it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time; but at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.'" The Lord is telling you to write down what He has placed in your heart—make it plain, specific, measurable. Your vision has a divine appointment, family. Trust the timing.
1 Corinthians 9:26 (KJV) — "I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air." Paul ran with purpose, with a clear target in mind. When you define your specific goals around God's vision for your life, you stop wasting energy on distractions and move with intention toward transformation.
Walking It Out
Write down your three most important dreams or visions God has given you. Not in your head—on paper. Be specific: if it's financial freedom, write the exact amount. If it's spiritual maturity, define what that looks like in daily practice. Make it plain, as Habakkuk instructs.
For each vision, identify one concrete goal for this month. Break transformation into bite-sized pieces. If your vision is to steward finances wisely, your January goal might be "track every dollar spent" or "save $200." One goal. One month. Measurable. Doable.
Share your written vision with an accountability partner or pastor. Speak it aloud. Let someone speak back into your life. The enemy thrives in secrecy; God's Word thrives in community and confession.
A Prayer for You
Father, I come before You today with a heart ready to receive the vision You have for my life. Forgive me for the days I have drifted without direction, for the times I accepted limitation as destiny. Give me clarity to see what You see, courage to pursue it with specificity, and the discipline to transform my default settings into the image of Christ. Let my dreams no longer be vague wishes, but holy assignments with measurable milestones. In Jesus' name, Amen.
