“It’s a Blessing Just to Be Here.”
Earlier this week, I stopped by a neighborhood grocery store to pick up a few things for today. The place was packed — last-minute shoppers, long lines, full carts. While waiting, I noticed an older woman ahead of me who kept glancing back at the crowd with a smile on her face. At one point she said, “You know… it’s a blessing just to be here.”
Something about that moment stayed with me. Not the groceries. Not the rush. Not the noise. But that simple sentence: “It’s a blessing just to be here.”
We forget sometimes that ordinary moments can carry holy reminders. A small gesture… A simple smile… A quiet act of kindness… can be the very thing that nudges someone’s heart back toward gratitude.
As you celebrate Thanksgiving today, my prayer is that you remain aware of the ways God has been good to you — not just in the big, dramatic ways, but in the subtle ways you may have overlooked. God has kept you. God has been faithful. God has continued to open doors, strengthen your spirit, and hold your life together even when you didn’t realize it.
Some of what you’re enjoying right now used to be what you prayed for.
Today, I want to share three things God has pressed on my heart this Thanksgiving:
** 1. LIFE IS GOD’S DAILY REMINDER OF PURPOSE
This year has taught me that we don’t control as much as we think we do. Every breath, every morning we wake up, every moment we get to start again — these are blessings. Don’t rush past the life you prayed to live. Take time today to appreciate the people around you, the progress you’ve made, and the opportunities God has given you. (Ecclesiastes 3:1–8)
** 2. GIVE YOURSELF PERMISSION TO REST
I recently spoke with a friend recovering from a tough season. Not a surgery — but a season of nonstop pressure, demands, and change. She told me, “I didn’t realize how tired I was until I finally slowed down.” Healing isn’t always physical. Sometimes you’re healing from disappointment, from transitions, from burdens you carried too long. And just like that friend, you need space to breathe and recover. There is no deadline on becoming whole. Be patient with your process.
** 3. GOD HAS BEEN FAITHFUL THROUGH EVERY SHIFT
One of the greatest reminders I’ve received this year is this: God doesn’t have to calm the storm to keep you steady within it. You may not have had a perfect year — none of us did — but you can still declare, “God kept me.” Through changes in the world, uncertainty, and unexpected turns, God has remained a Keeper. And for that, we give thanks.
Beloved, my prayer for you today is simple: That this Thanksgiving fills your heart with peace, clarity, and quiet joy. May you embrace the blessings around you and the grace that has followed you through this entire year.
