A Prayer to Keep You + Books to Feed You
Some days, that’s all we’ve got left — a book and a prayer.
Because truth is, life doesn’t always work out the way we planned. The surgery didn’t work. The job didn’t work. The marriage didn’t work. Friendships fade, finances crumble, co-parenting struggles. It’s enough to break you down.
But here’s the good news: even when life doesn’t work, God still works.
So today, we want to leave you with two things to hold on to — a prayer to carry you through and books to keep your faith alive. A Stirring Prayer for When It Doesn’t Work
Father God, We come to You broken, disappointed, and tired of things not working out. Lord, we tried to fix it on our own. We tried to hold the marriage together, tried to make the job work, tried to keep the friendship alive, tried to stretch the money, tried to heal our own bodies. But Lord, we confess — it didn’t work.
And yet, You are still God. Even when our plans fail, Your purpose still stands. Even when our strength runs out, Your grace carries us. Even when doors close, Your Word declares that You can open a greater one.
Father, lift the one reading this prayer right now. Remind them that just because it didn’t work, doesn’t mean You won’t work it out. Restore their hope. Heal their heart. Provide in ways they never imagined. Show them that failure is not final, and disappointment is not destiny.
Lord, we release every broken place into Your hands — marriages, jobs, finances, health, parenting, friendships — and we trust You to redeem it all. What we couldn’t fix, You can. What we lost, You can restore.
We declare even in tears: God, we still trust You.

Scripture for Meditation
Romans 8:28 (KJV): "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose."
Beloved, when your plans crumble, God's purpose doesn't. He is not surprised by your breakdown — He is already weaving your pain into His redemptive plan. What feels like failure today is often the foundation of His greater work tomorrow.
2 Corinthians 4:8-9 (NKJV): "We are hard pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed."
Family, the apostle Paul knew brokenness intimately. Yet he testifies that pressure is not the same as destruction. Your circumstances may feel overwhelming, but you are not abandoned. God Himself stands in the gap with you.
Jeremiah 29:11 (KJV): "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end."
This is not a prosperity promise; it is a promise of purpose. God's thoughts toward you are redemptive. Even now, in this season of disappointment, He is orchestrating your deliverance.
Walking It Out
Write down one thing that "didn't work" — the job, the relationship, the plan — and literally place it before God. Don't hide it. Name it. Then write one way God has worked in your life before. Let your memory become your anchor.
Choose one trusted person and share your burden. Isolation amplifies despair. Call a friend, a pastor, a counselor today and speak your disappointment aloud. Let someone else's faith hold you up while yours is weak.
Read one chapter from a faith-building book this week — a memoir, a theology book, or Scripture itself. Feed your spirit intentionally. Your mind needs renewing; your heart needs tending.
A Prayer for You
Lord Jesus, I am tired of trying and failing. I release the weight of my failed plans into Your capable hands. Forgive me for doubting Your goodness when my circumstances look dark. Right now, I choose to believe that my disappointment is not my destination — that You are still working, still loving, still restoring. Give me the grace to wait, the faith to trust, and the courage to move forward knowing that You have never failed me. In Jesus' name, Amen.
