5 Scriptures To Thank God For What You Already Have

Share

Before the day moves any further, take a moment to thank God.

Gratitude shifts your perspective. It reminds you that even while you are waiting on new blessings, God has already been good.

Here are 5 Scriptures you can declare today to cultivate a spirit of gratitude.

“O give thanks unto the Lord, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.”

“In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”

“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.”

“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above.”

“Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits.”

Take a moment today and thank God for:

• the breath in your lungs • the strength to face another day • the blessings you already have

Gratitude opens your heart to see God’s goodness in every season.

Scripture for Meditation

Philippians 4:4-5 (KJV) — "Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice. Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand." Paul writes this from prison, yet his joy is not based on circumstance but on relationship with Christ. When you rejoice in the Lord—not in what He gives, but in who He is—you unlock a gratitude that no hardship can shake.

Colossians 3:15-17 (NKJV) — "And let the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus... And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him." Gratitude is not passive sentiment, beloved; it is an active choice woven into every moment. When you give thanks through Christ, you align your entire day with His kingdom.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (KJV) — "Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you." Notice the word every—not just the pleasant seasons, but in every season. God's will for you today is thanksgiving, because thanksgiving anchors you in truth when feelings shift.

Walking It Out

Name three specific blessings before noon. Don't rush past them. Say them aloud: your family, your health, your faith, a meal, a job, a second chance. Let your tongue declare what your heart knows.

Text or call someone today to thank them. Gratitude multiplies when it's spoken. Tell a parent, a friend, a mentor, or a teacher what their presence means. You'll be modeling the very spirit of thanksgiving you're cultivating.

Keep a gratitude marker visible. Place a stone, a coin, or a photo somewhere you'll see it—on your desk, your mirror, your car. When you notice it, pause and thank God for one thing in that moment. Small practices become mighty habits.

A Prayer for You

Father, forgive me for the times I've looked past Your goodness, chasing tomorrow's blessings while missing today's mercies. Open my eyes to see what You've already provided—the breath, the strength, the love, the second chances. Shift my heart from complaint to gratitude, from scarcity to abundance in Christ. Let my thanksgiving be a fragrance that rises to Your throne and a testimony that draws others to Your faithfulness. In Jesus' name, Amen.
