5 Scriptures for a heavy heart

Share

As we approach Valentine’s Day, I know that for many in our ROHO family, the "Day After" doubt isn't just about a career or a goal—it’s about the heart.

Maybe you made a decision yesterday to walk away from a toxic situation. Maybe you’re standing on your rampart, but it feels lonely up there. I want to give you some specific "Manna" to keep your heart from failing while you wait for your "Bigger Prayer" to manifest.

Here are 5 Scriptures I want you to carry in your spirit today: 1. Psalm 34:18 – "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted..." 2. Psalm 147:3 – "He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds." 3. Proverbs 4:23 – "Above all else, guard your heart..." 4. Isaiah 41:10 – "So do not fear, for I am with you..." 5. Matthew 11:28 – "Come to me, all you who are weary..."

I’ve curated a special selection to help you meditate on these words. If your heart feels heavy as we head into this weekend, click below and let this be your therapy.

Scripture for Meditation

Psalm 34:18 (KJV) — "The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit."

Beloved, your broken heart is not hidden from God—it is the very thing that draws Him near. When you feel most alone in your pain, know that the Father is closer than your next breath, tending to the fragments of your spirit with the tenderness of a shepherd gathering his wounded lamb.

Proverbs 4:23 (NKJV) — "Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life."

Family, guarding your heart is not selfishness; it is obedience. Every decision you make today—to set a boundary, to speak truth, to walk away from what destroys you—flows from a heart protected by wisdom and faith. This is how you steward the very wellspring of your existence.

2 Corinthians 4:8-9 (KJV) — "We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed."

Your heaviness is temporary; your defeat is not final. God has written your story such that every weight you carry now becomes the very testimony that will free someone else tomorrow.

Walking It Out

1. Name Your Heart's Burden Before God — Don't carry this alone in silence. Write down the specific heartache you're facing—the relationship you released, the loneliness you're sitting with, the regret that haunts you—and lay it at the foot of the cross. Read it aloud to Jesus. Be honest. He can handle it.

2. Guard One Boundary Today — Choose one area where you need to protect your heart, and execute it with conviction. If it's a phone call you won't make, a text you won't send, a place you won't go—do it with the assurance that this is holy work. Write it down. Own it.

3. Speak Life Into Your Own Spirit — Stand in the mirror and declare one of these five scriptures over yourself. Hear your own voice naming the healing God promises. Your words have power. Speak as though you already believe it—because faith moves before feeling catches up.

A Prayer for You

Lord, I come to You with a heavy heart, and I'm grateful that nothing—not loneliness, not loss, not the weight of my own decisions—can separate me from Your tender compassion. Heal the places in me that are broken, and strengthen the resolve in me to guard what You're restoring. Give me the grace to stand alone if I must, knowing that You are my constant companion and my ultimate healing. Let my heart become whole not because my circumstances change, but because my faith in Your faithfulness becomes unshakeable. In Jesus' name, Amen.
